Weighted blankets use deep touch pressure stimulation to relax the body and calm the nervous system.
Weighted blankets in our Mobility Centre stores are the same weight as many other weighted blankets seen on the market, but there is a noticeable difference.
All the weight is concentrated on a smaller area, making the blanket feel distinctly heavier on your body.
Deep touch pressure stimulation mimics the feeling of being hugged or held and aids in naturally improving mood to help you fall into a deeper, more restful night’s sleep, as well as calm anxiety and improve concentration.
The filling of this blanket is Plastic Poly Pellets. These pellets are made from virgin plastic, which means that they have not been exposed to toxins or chemicals.
A removable cover has been provided with the hire blankets. This ensures we can clean the cover of the weighted blankets between uses.
We have three sized and weighted blankets to buy or hire.

A rough guide for choosing a weighted blanket
For children and people with mobility impairments – choose a blanket which is 10 per cent of the person’s body weight. Always check with the person that they are okay with having a weighted blanket placed on them before you begin.
For adults and people who can remove the blankets from themselves easily – start with a blanket 10 per cent of their weight and increase weight if desirable.
Safety
- These blankets are not recommended for children younger than 5 years old.
- Parents or caregivers must also avoid using weighted blankets when sitting or sleeping with infants to prevent injuries and accidental strangulation.
- Ensure that the mouth and nose are not covered under the blanket as that can obstruct breathing and lead to fatalities.
- A child or adult should be able to move independently when under one and should be able to remove the blanket themselves.
- Weighted blankets must never be used as a restraint (including rolling a child up in a blanket, using a very heavy blanket on a child).
